Shropshire Farms’ anaerobic digestion plant is a private energy project fuelled by vegetable waste and locally grown maize that generates about 2.4 MW of green energy. The project provides energy to power a local mushroom farm and funnels any spare capacity back into the national grid, thereby generating an additional income stream for the company.

RSK Consents Solutions was commissioned to undertake a full route proving exercise to the site from the existing electricity network. The distribution network operator had proposed a complex and expensive route from the point of connection to the site that involved both railway and river crossings. Importantly, these crossings would also mean long lead in times with the current operators to gain consent. RSK Consents Solutions delivered the scheme by successfully challenging the connection point, which resulted in a shorter circuit in conjunction with a significant cost saving.
